Well I didn’t stick to my promise of making a bunch of small updates last week. But I now have almost nothing to do so I should keep my word in just a short time, only a little bit later than planned.
The last few weeks have been a blur, I have seen more and done more than the last few months combined. On top of that the semester was also winding down so I had final projects for class due as well. And that is what had really been keeping me away from updating the blog here. Because if we (Lauren and I) were not doing something, I was working on one of my two final projects. Also every night for the last week and a half was spent in the editing studio working on my experimental production piece.
My one minute film turned out to be quite a hefty project. We were forced to shoot the project in one day. So we couldn’t really look at our footage and re-shoot anything that we messed up. It wouldn’t have been the biggest problem, but being in Australia it was a bit tougher, working in a different country at a different school with different rules for working with the equipment. As well as working with people I dont know, and without the niceties of a car, or knowing the area was a bit difficult for me.
QUT also uses Avid which I have never worked with before. So I had to learn a new program and edit the final project in a very short time. It was also different for me, working with a film, that I had to create a soundtrack for, normally with wakeboarding, and waterskiing you more or less slap a song down and edit to it. So I also had to learn Apple Soundtrack Pro as well as how to think like a sound designer, to create my soundscape to go along with the video track. Which was extremely exciting to me. So really this experimental production piece was just as much of an experiment with new technologies and workflows, as it was with the media and genre itself. So without further ado I give you “ONE LAST CIGARETTE”.
