The Grass is Always Greener

I have long had the problem of thinking, believing, against my good will and and better judgement that the grass is always greener on the other side. I know that it is not and I know that I am an extremely fortunate person. Even while Im thinking this, I know that I should not be.

Well I think the other day my outlook has changed for the good…. Here is a little background. When I first got to Brisbane I didn’t have a place to stay. I knew that it could have its possible problems, but I wanted to know what I was getting myself into. Well after spending an uneventful day in the QUT Housing office, I had prepared myself for living in the the absolute slummiest student dormitory style housing known to man. The kind where there is a large group of students living in a single unit with cramped individual apartment style rooms, with lockable doors keeping everyone cordoned off from one another like highly contagious patients in a hospital. Well we all know the outcome, and that was that I stumbled upon a paradise.

The other day I went to my friends house, and I saw the incredibly sad housing that I could have been living in. Now let me say that I am not necessarily a priss and I lived in one of the worst houses on campus last semester. However I think that the combination of not knowing a soul upon arrival, being in a completely different country at a new school, and living in a crap-hole house (for lack of a better term) would have put me over the edge, and I may have come running home two weeks after arrival.

I felt so bad for her, she is living in a very cramped rickety looking on room apartment, with a one wall “kitchen” consisting of two burners on an old counter with a sink, and a mini fridge. She has no tv, and no internet. And as previously stated, the way her house is laid out does not promote a social atmosphere, and communication. So I wrote this after having thought of this idea a while ago, and after reading it through… It seems I have forgot my idea. So with that being said the point to this post, is that I will no longer believe that the grass is always greener… I will make sure that I am extremely grateful for all that I have.
