*This is a very long one…
The Fun Decision
It was the tip from H*** but it was also a H*** of a lot of fun. Which is kind of a weird thing to say, but read on and you’ll get the picture. I had three options for this weekends activities. One option was to go to Fraser Island where you can drive 4×4’s over the sand dunes check out the amazing white sand beaches and camp where ever we please, but was slightly expensive. Option number two was to go sailing with the QUT Sailing Club which I was very excited about. Or number three which was to go surfing just a few hours north of Brisbane at Noosa. I decided I hadn’t been surfing enough, and since I can really go sailing everywhere, and I didn’t want to run down town extremely early in the morning to drop $250 I went surfing.
Transportation
I caught the 7:27 bus to Queenstreet so I could make the 8:01 train north. I had planned the whole trip online at the Translink Public Transportation website. The website is the official guide for transportation in Queensland. But the official guide lied. We were supposed to get off the train at Caboolture to catch a bus north to Nambour. However as soon as we stepped off we knew it was the wrong thing to do. The bus did not stop there, the next train going north didn’t pass by for another two hours, and the worst part about it was that the train we were on was going to the exact same place we needed to get to.
But the nice man behind the ticket window decided that he would be able to put us on a luxury train that would normally cost quite a bit of money, but feeling bad for us he brightened the day a bit. We still ended up waiting for 1.5 hours. We got on the train but since we were now “off schedule we had to wait another hour a bit further north, at Nambour before eventually taking us to Noosa. ( You can get a better idea of where I was at by looking at the Southeast Queensland map.
Noosa
We finally made it to Noosa, but Alex and I did not have a place to stay. We stumbled upon an absolutely amazing hostel on Sunshine Beach, a much better surfing beach than Noosa Beach, and only a 10 min bus ride away from where the other two guys were staying. We had our own room with a balcony looking over a pool and had ocean views out the front. As soon as we checked in we were down to the beach. I hung out there for quite some time waiting for my turn on the rented surfboard. It was like having a savoy steak sitting in front of me with out a fork or knife, I just wanted to go out there and surf so bad. It was so painful watching the other guys try and surf. So I went for walk, and by the time I got back it was my time. Finally I was back surfing again, It was glorious.
We hung out ate some good food, had a few drinks and headed down to the darkness of the beach to have a look at the stars. There is an incredible amount of stars in the universe many more than I had ever previously seen. But after awhile sitting in the deadening darkness, with only starlight got old so we built a raging beach fire with a single match. But I had been up for a good 18 hours at this point and it was a super long day. So we made it do bed around 3.
Noosa Day Two
I was up at sunrise, didn’t set an alarm or anything, the sun just drew me out of bed. I was on the beach to watch the sun peak over the horizon. And it was there I decided I would be the healthiest person in the world if I lived on the beach. Up at sunrise every morning to workout, run surf, and stretch, a great way to start everyday. But I was dead tired, and it was back to sleep for a few. Again I sat chomping at the bit waiting to surf. But I finally got on and the surf wasn’t all that good, but it was just great to be out there. I ended up be-friending a very nice man from South Africa, in his 30’s who moved to Australia because it had got two dangerous for his family there. But we got to talking and we exchanged our information before leaving. He invited me to back up to Noosa, for some Windsurfing, Rockclimbing and, another round of surfing. Which I am definitely going to take him up on.
However shortly there after I was on my way to the hospital. IT WAS NOT FOR ME THIS TIME. Alex the kid I was surfing with pulled his shoulder out of socket. After a bit of cajoling from the paramedic and a promise that he could not spell ALEX for the life of him, Alex decided that he would take the $800 Ambulance ride, in hopes that he would not have to pay it. Four hours later we were a 20 min drive from the beach with no way to return home. Luckily I had been talking to a very nice lady who had offered to bring us back to where we needed to go.
We took a very short walk into the Noosa Heads National Park to kill some time before our bus came, and it was quite possibly my favorite part of the trip. It was gorgeous, you could spend all day walking through the park, stopping at every small beach, and swimming, picnicking and dallying among the tidal pools on the rocks. I need to make up for all the activities that were cut short this weekend because of certain circumstances, so I will definitely be returning shortly.
