I have received quite a few emails from concerned family and friends about my experience with this Cyclone that is passing through. To my disappointment we have not received a single rain drop here. I figure things will pan out much like the Cyclone that passed through my second week in Australia. So far both Cyclones have been much much further north than I. However the last one did stir up quite a bit of damage on Brisbane’s nearby coasts. But all we saw were 5 days or light wind gusts and constant rain. So just to let everyone know I am safe.
Cyclone Larry did have its fair share of destruction tearing off roofs and things, but the Australian Government was pretty great with the evacuation plan and hearded everyone to safety, leaving only a few injured and an amazing 0 deaths in this incredible storm. The US could learn a bit from the Australians here about evacuation planning for natural disasters.
But have no fear because Cyclone Wati is on his way. But Hajo and I have stocked up on food ( Mostly because we were living on granola bars for 3 days ) so we should be prepared for the worst. But Im afraid even Wati is going to head too far north for us to see any of the action. So thanks to all of you who were concerned we are fine here, and I am still required to attend class today… DARN.
